SMI Advisory Groups are made up of subject matter experts from member organizations who share their insights and expertise with the broader SMI community, with a particular focus on supporting the work of the Thought Leadership Councils.

Bruce Lee Hall, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S.

Bruce L. Hall, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., is the Chief Clinical Officer for UC Davis Health. He oversees all clinical operations in the health system, which includes creating and activating service lines, addressing total costs of care, assuring consistent, high-quality care across all venues, analyzing acquisitions of new care or post-acute care facilities, and improving overall access to care.

Hall’s areas of expertise include performance measurement, quality improvement, and facilitating change. For more than a decade, he has taught health care economics and management courses, and guest lectured on topics including health care economics, insurance theory, health policy, health care management, and industry change.

In 2020, Hall was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of “50 patient safety experts to know in 2020,” and in 2022, was recognized again by Becker’s as one of “26 patient safety experts to know.” In 2023, Becker’s recognized him a third time as one of “55 patient safety experts to know.” In addition, he has served as an American College of Surgeons liaison to the National Quality Forum, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Joint Commission.

Prior to UC Davis Health, Hall was the Vice President and System Chief Medical Officer at BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, where he led the system’s Clinical Advisory Group for the BJC Center for Clinical Excellence. BJC HealthCare includes two nationally recognized academic hospitals – Barnes–Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital – both of which are affiliated with the Washington University School of Medicine. He was also a professor of surgery in Washington University’s School of Medicine and a professor of health care management in the university’s Olin Business School. He has been a member of the leadership team for the American College of Surgeons’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program since its founding more than 20 years ago.

Teresa Amato, MD

Dr. Teresa Amato, is an Emergency Medicine physician who has been at Northwell Health since June 2010. She began her clinical career in medical education and then pivoted to administrative roles focusing on operational efficiencies, patient experience and physician well-being.  Prior to her current role, she was the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills and led her team through the first wave of the Covid pandemic.

In her current roll as Vice President of Clinical Sustainability and Resource Stewardship at Northwell Health, Dr. Amato focuses on integrating sustainability principles into healthcare operations, ensuring alignment between sustainable practices and clinical care, and engaging clinicians in these efforts.  Her efforts involve developing and implementing comprehensive clinical sustainability programs that align with the organization’s overarching goals.

Dr. Amato graduated with a Bachelor and Master Degree in Nursing from Columbia University prior to attending SUNY Downstate Medical School where she received her medical degree.  She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at NYP Cornell/Columbia and served as Chief resident in her final year.  She also finished a fellowship in Geriatric Emergency Medicine at NYP Cornell/Columbia.

Aarathi Cholkeri-Singh, MD FACOG

Dr. Aarathi Cholkeri-Singh is a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon who completed her fellowship training through the AAGL in 2007. She was in private practice in Metropolitan Chicago for nearly 13 years during which time she developed and led courses at multiple national and international meetings, published manuscripts in well-recognized, peer-reviewed medical journals, contributed book chapters in medical textbooks, served as a leader, including elected Board positions, in medical societies and communities, and worked with several industry partners on advancing women’s health care. Dr. Cholkeri-Singh made significant contributions in the work of both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, including, but not limited to, isthmocele repairs, retained products of conception, embryofetoscopy, and training and education. She recently shifted from direct patient care into industry leadership where she currently serves as the KARL STORZ United States Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer for Medical & Scientific Affairs
