Jane Pleasants is President of SMI, where she provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization and its community of healthcare supply chain leaders. She oversees SMI’s industry initiatives, strategic programs and partnerships, and serves as moderator of SMI’s bi-annual Forums. Her work is focused on advancing collaboration, innovation, and thought leadership across the healthcare supply chain.
Prior to joining SMI, Jane served as Vice President of Supply Chain for Duke University and Duke University Health System. She joined Duke to establish the procurement infrastructure for the newly formed Health System and ultimately led end-to-end supply chain operations across the enterprise.
Jane also provided procurement and sourcing leadership for Duke University’s academic and medical center campuses through one of the relatively few shared-service models supporting a university, academic medical center, and health system. Her work extended internationally and included leading the sourcing and procurement of furniture and equipment for Duke Kunshan University in China.
Jane began her healthcare supply chain career at a small rural hospital in North Georgia. Over the course of her career, she went on to lead supply chain organizations at three major academic medical centers — Vanderbilt University, the University of Rochester, and Duke University — each involving shared services across healthcare and academic enterprises.
Her career has given her a unique perspective spanning the evolution of healthcare supply chain from a largely transactional function to an increasingly strategic discipline. Today, through her leadership of SMI, Jane brings that experience to building connections among healthcare executives, industry partners, physicians, and other leaders working to strengthen and advance the healthcare supply chain.
