SMI Members Release a Roadmap to the Healthcare Supply Chain of the Future
Kingston, MA (June 23, 2022): SMI®, a non-profit, member-driven community of healthcare supply chain organizations, today released a new roadmap of what’s needed for a more resilient, proficient, and progressive healthcare supply chain for the future. SMI members, all healthcare supply chain thought leaders, participated in executive exchange discussions, facilitated by L.E.K. Consulting, to contemplate what health systems will look like and the priorities required to build the supply chain for the year 2030. Significant transformation had been underway among U.S. health systems during the past decade and was accelerated by the impact of COVID-19. SMI, with guidance from L.E.K. Consulting, set out to strategize and compile insights from thought leader members on where the industry is going and what is needed to support health systems in 2030. During two 90-minute executive exchange sessions, over 60 SMI members discussed the following:
- What do you believe will be the most significant change in how health systems look by 2030?
- What are the transformative ways supply chains needs to innovate to support the health system of 2030?
- How can suppliers and providers best collaborate to support the changes ahead, especially in the near term?
Results from these discussions were compiled into this new roadmap for the industry that focuses on prioritizing predictive and prescriptive supply chain analytics, talent management and deeper strategic partnerships.
SMI member Ilya Trakhtenberg, Managing Director and Head of L.E.K. Consulting’s Healthcare Supply Chain Practice summarized the sessions: “SMI members observed that as health systems become larger and more sophisticated and patient care increasingly shifts outside of the hospital, there is a greater need for making more effective use of data, developing required talent, and facilitating collaboration with partners. Investing in these priorities now will help build and sustain the supply chain of tomorrow.”
