SMI Announces 3 New Appointments to Board of Directors

Westborough, MA (January 20, 2021): SMI®, a non-profit, member-driven community of healthcare supply chain organizations, announced that it has appointed Steve Gundersen, Vice President and General Manager of the Strategic Customer Group for BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) as the Board Chair effective January 1, 2021. In addition, Mary Beth Lang, Vice President, Chief Supply Chain & Procurement Officer of Kaiser Permanente and Lara Latham, Vice President, Healthcare Systems of Stryker Corporation have been appointed as new members of SMI’s board of directors also effective January 1, 2021.

The SMI Board consists of both provider and supplier members to ensure it has a balanced representation of its membership to help guide the strategic direction of the organization. Gundersen is a founding member, previous Board member and former Chair, and has played a crucial role to drive growth and recognition of SMI during the past 16 years. Both Lang and Latham have been highly engaged and respected members of SMI for over 10 years.

Gundersen said, “During these challenging times, SMI plays a very critical role in helping the healthcare supply chain industry become more stable and resilient. To lead this esteemed Board and to have Mary Beth and Lara, two admired industry leaders, join us is truly an honor for me. Lang offered, “I am excited to help shape the next chapter of this very important and relevant organization. To join this group of caring and competent leaders means so much during a time when we all play a critical role in helping patients and our peers through the COVID-19 crisis.”

Latham shared, “I am very grateful and honored to be part of this amazing group doing such important work. I look forward to serving the SMI community, alongside many of my mentors and colleagues.”
